Non-toxic paints/coatings/inks are an essential component for printing on any object in all the sectors, it may be any metal, plastics or composite which is used in, food packaging, shoes or footwear, medical products and in the toy industry. After that there are many challenges that are faced , since babies and toddlers are often explore to the inks on toys by touching and using their mouths by sucking and chewing. This will ask for higher safety requirements, especially in terms of the composition and chemicals used in printing inks on toys.

There are Rules, regulations & Norms to ensure the safety of toys all these years. They are guarantee that inks/paints/coatings are  compliant with common safety standards within the European Union. All the toy Norms & regulations have recently been revised and are now well defined in Directive 2009/48/EU. Compliance with the stipulated chemical safety requirements stated in the regulation is also regulated by the EN 71 norm series (Toy Safety). For Spraying, coating, coloring and printing toys and there components, EN 71-3:2013 is the primary applicable regulation.

Analyses can be carried out by accredited laboratories (such as SQTS, SGS Institut Fresenius, Intertek, TÜV). The toy manufacturer is responsible for compliance with legal requirements for toys.
